Finding Discounts

Discount is the reduction in the Market price to increase the sale and to promote the products.

Discount = Market price – Sale Price

To calculate the discount percentage

\mathrm{Discount\ \%=\dfrac{Discount}{Market\ Price}\times100}

Example

If the price of one jean is Rs 2500  and we are getting a discount of  Rs 500  then what is the sale price of the jeans? What is the discount percentage?

Solution

Market price = Rs 2500

Discount =  Rs.500

Sale Price = 2500 – 500

=  Rs.2000

\mathrm{Discount\ \%=\dfrac{500}{2500}\times100=20\%}
