Division of Decimal Numbers by 10,100,1000

If we divide a decimal number by 10, then the decimal point will be shifted one place to the left.

Example 1.

Divide 5.76 by 10 .

Solution.

5.76\div 10=\dfrac{576}{100}\times \dfrac{1}{10}=\dfrac{576}{1000}=0.576

Example 2.

Divide 127.37 by 100 .

Solution.

127.37\div 100=\dfrac{12737}{100}\times \dfrac{1}{100}=\dfrac{12737}{10000}=1.2737

Example 3.

Divide 92.85 by 100 .

Solution.

92.85\div 100=\dfrac{9285}{100}\times \dfrac{1}{100}=\dfrac{9285}{10000}=0.9285

 

Example 4.

Divide 9.05 by 1000 .

Solution.

9.05\div 1000=\dfrac{905}{100}\times \dfrac{1}{1000}=\dfrac{905}{100000}=0.00905

Example 5.

Divide 52 by 1000 .

Solution.

52\div 1000=52\times \dfrac{1}{1000}=\dfrac{52}{1000}=0.052
